I've had this problem with two seperate 360's, it's a problem with the system overheating, once you have the red ring of death the only solution is to send it in for repair, call Microsoft and see if your system is still under warranty, Microsoft extended their 90 day system warranty to a year for the 360 so if the date on the system tag is less than a year from when it was manufactured they will repair it at no cost to you, if it's beyond the year then it cost's about $120 to repair the system. If it's still under warranty they will send you a prepaid box via DHL to ship the unit to McAllen TX for repair at no cost to you, takes about 4 weeks to get it back. I've had to do this twice, both times they sent me back a brand new 360.
Also don't fall for the "free" xbox 360 gimmick one of the previous poster made.
