They let me drive of the lot w/o insurance and I got into a wreck a week later... now what?!?
I bought a 2003 midnight blue toyota camry about 2 weeks ago. Friday June 15th 2007 I got into a wreck on the freeway. A suv was swerving into my lane! I kept trying to get the hell out of their way. then they almost hit me and I swirved to the right to hard and my car went out of control and his the wall. my back tire is bent in and un drivable and the back door is fucked up, there is an inch and a half space in the top of it when you close it. The cop was so nice. He didnt make me file a report since i didnt have insurance. I bought my car at a small wholesale lot and financed it through credit union. they told me that I had 30 days to pay sales tax and get insurance. well now my car is wrecked and me and my fiance have to get it fixed. should the credit union pay some of it? was I insured by them? or am I just completely fucked over.... this is the first car ive every bought off a lot. I am 20 years old and have ntohing but bad luck...

This was a very expensive lesson for you. You have no insurance. You need to buy the insurance on your car BEFORE you go to get it. Most credit unions will not release funds until they have proof of insurance (at least around here). I guess they have been lucky that their clients have not gotten in an accident before they got insurance or their clients actually GOT insurance before they picked up the car. Your credit union will NOT pay for damages, they loaned you the money & it was your responsibility to insure the vehicle. I'm sure they didn't force place coverage on the car yet because they gave you 30 days to show proof of insurance (effective on the day you purchased the car!!).
Now, you will have to pay for the damages on the car & any damages you caused to the median out of your pocket. You are actually very lucky you didn't injure anyone because you would have had to pay that out of pocket too & that could have been MANY THOUSANDS of dollars.
Luck has nothing to do with this, you should know you need insurance to drive a vehicle.
Now, you need to buy insurance on this vehicle before you drive it again!! If you have to buy another car - insured it before you drive it.
