3 Classic Nes Games You Can Play Right On Your Nintendo 3DS Console

Want Some Awesome Nes Games On Your Nintendo DSi? Here's Two For The R4 DS

Emulation is good. No, it's great. Being able to take classic games from the systems of yesterday, and then playing them, using emulators on your current generation game consoles really helps to expand not only your game collection, but also what you know about games, and more specifically franchises that are on today's systems. Being able to get a chance to not only know, but to also play some of the first games every released, like for example, Mario on the NES, gives you a whole new appreciation for how far the game and the series have come.

Just how can your Nintendo DS or Nintendo 3DS play old classic games through an emalator?  After all, it's not like the have an emulator card.  But what  you can get is something called the r4 DS Card, or R4 3DS Card for the Nintendo 3DS, which will allow you to load and store these emulators and then copy over the games you want to play. While they may not be the most graphically impressive games, compared to todays 3D and rendered games, they certainly made up for the graphics with truly unique game ideas and the most important of all - excellent game play.

Many of the games we play today, started out in one form or another, on the NES console. Published and released by the same company, but back when they were working with bits and bytes, and not gigs of space to bring their games to life. So for those of you who may have just entered into the classic gaming world, here are a couple of NES games I suggest you try right away.

A side scrolling platform game - that let the whole screen move around - that's what Bionic commando was. Platform games is what the NES was known for - but Bionic commando was different in that you could not only move your character left and right, you could scroll the whole screen as you jumped up on new platforms - a first on the NES.  Not to mention that the game was actually pretty hard - especially as you were getting to the end of a level.    It was the full screen scrolling as you jumped from platform to platform that made this game so much fun. Just how popular was the game?  Popular enough to have remakes made for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360, with more to follow I am sure.

1. Bubble Bobble

Bub and Bob had to save the forest, or something like that. Unlike the new variations of Puzzle Bobble, in this game you were either single player, or in a team.  And instead of having to match up bubbles with 3 of the same color to get them to explode, you had to blow bubbles and pop them with the bad guys inside to be able to collect all the fruits for points. While the new version of this game is different, the original was the most fun I ever had - a puzzle and strategy element was needed to be able to play this game. What a lot of people like about Bubble Bobble was that it was a game that you could pick up and play, quick and easy to get into.  And you could save your game, and come back to whatever level you left off at previously. It's also been remade on various other systems, obviously because the game is a lot of fun to play.

1. R-Type

The game that set the stage for shoot em up games. It's the classic side scrolling shoot em up game - with all the elements that make shoot em up games so good - not to mention it was converted for virtually every system out there. And for good reason. Because the game was as hard as it was - it was the most sought after game to play at home. As I had said many times, R-Type wad HARD - really hard, and that's why being able to play it at home ended up saving you a lot of money - and endless continues too! A game that was truly filled with lost of fun and excitement - and a whole slew of good frustrations too.}

Oh Gyruss - how I waited for this game to get the conversion to the home systems - a truly remarkable shooter. An amazing game filled with all that a space shooter needs. It was different though than your regular side scrolling shoot em up games in that you had almost a 3D game going on. Enemies would come out from the side of the screen and any you didn't kill would be sent further away from your main ship, only to come back and try to shoot you down. Your mission in the game? To go from planet to planet (in our galaxy) and stop the advancing alien forces from attacking. While the game was straightforward to play - trying to explain it in writing is a tad difficult.  You should try this game and experience it for yourself to really get a feel for just how good it was - and is.

2. Ghostbusters 2

Ghostbusters for the NES was a great game, lots of fun to play.  And in 1990 the sequel was released for the NES console, and thank god it was. Ghostbusters 2 left off where the first game finished, and added a whole slew of new elements to the franchise. It was a mix between platform and puzzle game. What you noticed right away were the improved graphics.  The first game had decent graphics, considering when it was released - but there was a big improvement in this sequel. What more can I really say about this game.  Practically every knows The Ghostbusters - young and old.  And Ghostbusters 2 for the NES gives you a chance to get your game on as the original ghost hunters.}

Now the big question from you may be, how the heck can I play this on my Nintendo DSi or 3DS system? You can do this very easily.  All you need is an R4 DS Card for the DS and DSi or an R4 3DS Card for the Nintendo 3DS system, and you'll be up and retro gaming in no time. The games look absolutely fantastic - just as good, if not better than, they looked on your TV screen when you first brought your NES home.
