Boggled by the Music Game Choice?
This has always been a difficult decision since Rock Band broke into the market, which game is right for you? This decision is becoming ever more harder because both game developers are releasing more and more games, so this post should help you decide which game is right for you.
I'll kick off with Guitar Hero 2, the first Guitar Hero game to be released onto the next-gen consoles. Although this is a good game, it only has the guitar career so this one is not a great one for beginners. I do think this game is a good buy if you are a fan of classic songs like Free Bird.
Guitar Hero 3 is the next one, this is available on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. Guitar Hero 3 is very similar to the previous Guitar Hero 2, it's an extremely good game, however it's restricted by having only the guitar career. However, this game is a must have for every Guitar Hero fan because it comes with the best song list.
The next couple are both band based games, Guitar Hero Aerosmith and Guitar Hero Metallica. Because of what I just wrote, these games are not ideal for beginners because you don't get that wide array of songs like in the other games. Unless you are a fan of Guitar Hero and a fan of the band, I don't think they are worth buying.
Guitar Hero World Tour is a very popular one currently because it is the first Guitar Hero to contain all instruments, the mic, drums, bass and guitar. However, in my opinion, the set list is terrible. It's crammed full of old cheesy songs that are terrible for solo play.
Guitar Hero Greatest Hits is the next game, but it's also the latest released. I believe that this game is the best for a family or a beginner music game player. I think this because the set list contains the best songs from Guitar Hero 1, 2, 3, 80’s and Aerosmith. This means that you get the greatest songs to make an awesome set list, aswell as being able to play all these songs with the full range of instruments.
Now onto the competition of Guitar Hero, Rock Band. The first game, Rock Band 1, was extremely good because it had a great set list as well as the addition of the full range of instruments. The game was very good beside the guitar controllers that they made, they were pretty terrbile. However, with Rock Band 2 being released, this is a more ideal game because it comes with an even better set list, as well as a range of improved game features. Also, with Rock Band 2, if you purchase the first game, you can put all those tracks onto the latest Rock Band 2 game.
The only downside to Rock Band 2 is that you currently can't buy the Rock Band 2 instruments in Europe that come with improved drums. Note: The new instruments are being released in September with the release of The Beatles: Rock Band.
That's not all, though, Rock Band also has a huge online library of songs that you can download for a small amount. They have hundreds of songs that you can download, plus all of these work on any of the Rock Band games so you can always be growing you song list.
However, is Rock Band a good choice for beginners? I would personally say it isn't, however, it is the best game for an experienced player because it has such an expandable set list.
As for the best game for beginners, aslong as you get all the instruments to get the most out of the game, I would say Guitar Hero Greatest Hits is the best.
